Track 1: Metal Artifact Reduction

Track 1 is the foundation task for STS 2026. It directly addresses the primary obstacle in CBCT-based diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with metallic crowns, bridges or implants: streaks, shadows and blooming artifacts that obscure anatomical structures.

A successful metal artifact reduction solution enables clearer visualization of anatomy and forms the essential pre-processing step for downstream segmentation and registration. This task supports the complete STS 2026 workflow by improving the quality of artifact-affected CBCT scans before core analysis and fusion tasks are performed.

The Track 1 leaderboard will focus on the ability to restore clinically useful CBCT information while preserving anatomical structures needed by the subsequent multi-structure segmentation and IOS-CBCT registration tasks.
